Aaron Schmalzle l July 30, 2016 This has been a great Saturday! After a morning devotion and prayer, Joelle and I took our jack russell, who likes to chase rabbits, on a walk at our lakefront park. She didn't catch any, but if dogs could smile, she was beaming. I helped my neighbor move furniture, and later Joelle and I learned how to make beef stroganoff and enjoyed a nice sit down dinner together. The better part of this day, however, was spent writing Thank You's and packaging up the crowdfunding gifts for our campaign that Castle Church recently launched! Your support... Jared Witt l July 28, 2016 When I asked the CEO how he came to own so much wealth, he told me, “Unlike some other overpaid exec, I had the idea and took the risk that made the wealth possible.” When I asked the overpaid exec, she told me, “Unlike the yes-man in middle management, I create wealth through my vision and forecasting.” When I asked the yes-man in middle management, he told me, “Unlike the whiny foreman, I earn my living through cheerful dedication to the company.” When I asked the whiny foreman, he told me, “Unlike the lazy union worker, who gives us all a bad name, I only expect what's coming to me.” When I asked the lazy union worker, she told me, “Unlike the welfare-state recipient on food stamps, I have a job.” When I asked the welfare-state recipient on food stamps, she told me, “Unlike the good-for-nothing beggar, I go legitimately through the system and only take what I need.” When I asked the good-for-nothing beggar, he told me this: The four pledge levels below have been our most popular... Is there someone with whom you can share our campaign? We Need Your Help To Finish The Race! And of course, there are many other pledge levels, ranging from Drink Sets and Invites to the grand opening party, to Private Parties with your friends and Creating and Brewing your own recipe on the new equipment! Have you seen the new video explaining our church's vision and ministry for owning a brewery? Over 6,500 people liked and shared online! Jared and I are humbled and amazed at the generosity and support. Most of all, we appreciate everyone's prayers and encouragement for the Castle Church ministry. From the beginning we're constantly recognizing how the Holy Spirit has been at work through us, and through all of you too, to strengthen and grow Castle Church. It's been a blessing to be a part of and I hope that you would consider it too! Jared Witt l July 21, 2016 There is a fairly amateurish painting of an owl that now hangs in the hallway of my house. It’s not terrible, I guess. Better than I could do. It’s just not the kind of thing I would normally put on display. I put my foot in my mouth one day when I gently suggested to my wife that maybe it would look better in a box, tucked safely away in a closet. She went on to tell me how this painting was a particular favorite of her late brother, Shane, who had recently lost a 10 year battle with bi-polar disorder. He had found it at some flea market, declared it “beautiful,” and decided it deserved a good home. Giving a home to forgotten things was something of a recurring theme in his life. ...You Can Help Castle Church Reach Our Goal......You Can Make This Happen:You can help Castle Church with your support through the Development Campaign! Our team is grateful for the generous support of everyone who has committed to the mission and vision of Castle Church so far. Thank you for your support!
Every year, since I was about 20, I’ve had the thought that this will be the one where I finally outgrow video games. Then something like Fallout IV happens, and the best laid plans go to waste yet again.
Don’t know about you, but the hardest truth for me to confess about my own life is usually not the juicy, shocking one, which only comes around every once in a while. More often, it’s that little guilty pleasure, which isn’t any terrible moral failing. It just doesn’t align with the image of myself that I’d prefer to project out into the world. It’s that fact of my existence which isn’t, let’s say, SMR: social media ready. I might Instagram my dinner at the fancy seasonal restaurant but not necessarily my lunch at Taco Bell. I want my dinner party guests to know that I’m reading a Pulitzer prize winning novel, not necessarily that I’m reading it in between Buzzfeeds. And atop this inglorious heap of guilty pleasures is my, apparently, lifelong love of looting post-apocalyptic shipping warehouses. Once again our nation witnessed the brutal violence that black Americans face daily. Once again we are witnessing a polarized debate where people are taking sides: Police vs. Black Lives. Once again we see the visible signs of a community that is victimized, suffering, and in pain. Once again we are a faced with a sad truth: this will not be the last time. I am sickened because THIS time I have a broken heart. This video is a quick overview of the cleaning process that is necessary to successfully brew good quality beer. I'll also show you the newest Castle Church T-Shirts and Logo Pint Glasses that you can get to help our development campaign! Be sure to check back each week for a new short video about the brewery and our beer. Feel free to leave comments if you have additional questions or would like to see something on a specific topic in the future. Cheers! The crowd is tens of thousands strong, few of them seated. A synthesized drone phases in and out of the speakers. Every slight movement on stage draws a rumble of anticipation. At 30, I show my age with the thought, “Only Dave Matthews could sell this many tickets.” My friend, Kelly, jokes that it feels like we are chaperones.
Whatever we are, we're clearly on their turf, “them” being the 16 and 17 year olds all around us. Or better yet, they are the hosts, and we are the guests. And we’ve just walked in on a conversation that they’ve been having without us for some time. What are they talking about? Whatever it is, it seems serious. Somehow, they all know when an invisible curtain drops. A spotlight shows two guys in red ski masks, the rumble, now a roar. The one wears his drum set like it's a fig leaf. The other carries himself with an energy that manages to be both small and clearly in control of the room at the same time. Apparently, there is a semi-automatic burst of words that has been building up for some time, and it’s about to go off. What genre of music is this?
